Bonjour! I was warmly greeted as I walked into Sofitel Montreal. I felt immediately at ease as I checked into the hotel. I was excited to finally be at Sofitel Montreal, I heard so much about this hotel and was charmed from the second I stepped foot inside. After a 3 day/2 night stay, I'm a true believer of the 'Sofitel touch'. Let me try and describe what the Sofitel touch is...

The food is made with ingredients locally sourced and was simply magnifique. Everything sounded so healthy and delicious, I wanted to try everything! Renoir and French Chef Olivier Perret were awarded 2 out of 5 "toques" - an extremely high honor and excellent score (on the brink of nearing Michelin Stars!) They also received a global score of 14 out of 20 in the first Montreal edition of the prestigious French guide Gault & Millau 2016. Other perks to Renoir: there serve buffets, brunch, and there is also an outdoor terrace that stays open all throughout the year! Yes, even in the winter you can sit outside under the heat lamps and a fireplace to enjoy hot cocoa and smores.

As I stepped up to the immigration booth, the officer asked me, "who are you visiting?" Honestly? I panicked. I've always had someone to say I was visiting... but this time I couldn't. "No one... I'm traveling alone." I replied. She asked me, "then what are you doing here?" This, I knew how to respond without panicking and told her the truth, "I start graduate school in New York next week and I wanted to travel a bit more before I started school. I've heard so many great things about Montreal so I decided to visit!" And with that, she let me through.

I always try to keep an open mind when traveling to a new country so I came to Laos with a blank slate in mind, not knowing what to expect.
