On our second and third day in Iceland, we were fortunate enough to stay at the newly expanded Hotel Örk. Hotel Örk is located in the beautiful town of Hveragerði, only 44 km from Reykjavík and an easy drive under an hour.

Hotel Örk is conveniently located and an ideal location for our base after each excursion. Not only were we surrounded by natural beauty but also a gas station, a local bakery and supermarket for an easy fuel-up. This first class hotel has all the full suite of amenities, a heated pool, golf course and a restaurant (HVER) for the perfect wind-down after a long day.

Hotel Örk recently added 78 new rooms: Superior, Junior Suites, and Suites, is fully operational and open for booking.

We were excited to stay at the newly constructed wing of Hotel Örk that was opened in May 2018. The new building is connected to the current buildings so you don't have to go outside to move around. We stayed at a Junior Suite in the new building and the breakfast buffet is complimentary each morning.

Hotel Örk: Junior Suite

The Junior Suite is newly constructed and spacious with a separate bedroom and living area. We were very comfortable in a Hypnos queen bed and a private walk-out balcony. The Junior Suite has a separate seating area, a spacious bathroom, a large desk, a safety box and a sofa that can be converted into a sofa bed.

Each room comes with a water boiler, coffee and tea and I enjoyed a nice hot cup of coffee on the balcony with a view. All the rooms have complimentary WiFi.

Hotel Örk boasts all Junior suites has a luxurious handmade 1000 pocket spring mattress from Hypnos, designed and tailor-made in the U.K. The mattress moulds to your body to ensure support while you sleep and regulate body temperature. I can attest to two wonderful nights of sleep!

In addition to the spacious room, the junior suite bathrooms are modern and has everything you need.

Hotel Örk has been awarded “Iceland’s Best Golf Hotel” three years in a row so if you’re a golfer, make sure you play a few holes. Additional facilities include conference rooms, game room, water slide pool, hot tub, and geothermal sauna. The pools are kept at ~30 Celsius/ 86 Fahrenheit and the hot tubs are a few degrees warmer. Highly recommend to dip in the warm pools on any chill Icelandic day.

Enjoy a breakfast buffet selection every morning. The hot bar includes eggs, sausage and beans to cold cuts, fruits and breads. There’s a coffee machine to whip up your morning beverage of choice or juices and milk. You’ll be fueled up and ready for a full day of adventure.

I also highly recommend dining at HVER restaurant located in Hotel Örk. This first class restaurant focuses on local ingredients and dishes. Drop by for lunch, dinner or drinks - most importantly, happy hour is from 4pm – 6pm every day.
